Sharify: An App to Rediscover Social Side

Sharify helps to rediscover your city’s social side. It was found in Barcelona. This is the real-time events app that simplifies local event’s discovery by matching thousands of events on the internet, great event partners & user-generated events through meaningful connections making cities better connect. Sharify is the best app for finding and sharing local events in a city. It publishes your plans for free and even finds thousands of events around you.

Share, discover and connect: Sharify offers both locals and tourists a way to share events in a city in an easier way. With Sharify you can stay in touch with people in cities with the same hobbies, neighborhoods, and groups of the city like Neighbourhoods communities, Surf community, Musicians community, International community, Dog Lovers community, Football community, Yoga community, Runners community, etc.

Sharify is a startup that helps to get out of the weird flatness of pandemic city living. It’s a real-time events app ( available for iOS and Android) that wants to bring back a little of the joy of urban living by making it easier to discover things happening around you, maybe just a few blocks away. Sharify is the combination of real-time event listings with a map view with the medium of emoji-style icons plus filters to quickly and joyfully surround you with stuff that’s happening in the area near you.

Though the business idea predates COVID-19, Sharify isn’t blind to the changes wrought by the pandemic. And the app displays a star icon next to events that denote COVID-19 ‘safe’, a subtle promotion meaning the organizer has measures in place to reduce the risk factor, by controlling venue capacity, providing disinfectant hand sanitizer, and ensuring tables, seating are safely spaced. More broadly, Sharify helps to rethink the concept of traveling and enjoying in the amid of covid-19 by enjoying the local events without traveling so far.

This app has two view modes for viewing, one is for locals and the other is committed towards tourists to cater to those wanting to do more typical sightseeing through content for the latter is thinner on the ground at the moment.

‘Tourism’ as a concept is starting to feel rather quaint and old-fashioned vs properly exploring your backyard. After so much time spending time locked in indoors due to pandemic maybe we all need a bit of a visual reminder that life is still going on and socializing is still possible with appropriate safety measures and distancing beyond the front door and away from the Zoom screen or any other screen. Even if I’m not about to sign up for everything I spotted in the app but feeling like I could is almost exciting enough.

To encourage users to explore, Sharify displays a smiley face on the map in locations where several people are available for ‘sharing plans’ listing the number of people theoretically up for joining in stuff around there and nudging you to ‘create a plan in this area’ to tap into that potential guest pool. It also drills down to micro profiles which have a profile picture that helps to connect with people having similar interests and hobbies. There is no option for messaging, so don’t need to be afraid of spamming your inbox.

“We’re stuck at home, and we saw many Netflix series, but now I’m bored. Is there any plan near my home for this afternoon? Event agendas simply don’t work in this use case. That’s why we built a real-time map,” says co-founder and CEO Gemma Prenafeta. “And the problem we will face in some months from now: I’m not stuck at home anymore. Where do I find new events easily? As Sharify is a collaborative platform, we let people share their events for free, we scrape different event sources such as Google and Tiqets, and we highlight those businesses that want to promote themselves,” she adds, giving a succinct explainer on how the app populates the map view with stuff to do.
