Sentropy Raises 13 Million to Develop Tools to Protect Themselves from Social Media Abuse

 In amid of US presidential election campaign in last year there emerged a new start-up called Sentropy with an AI-based platform. This platform aimed at social media and other companies that helped people join together for conversation. Sentropy’s algorithm was built using natural language processing and machine learning. These algorithms helped to detect social toxicity and eliminate that before becoming a serious issue.

Now, the Product is being unveiled by this company that aims at consumers using the same technology that was built for an enterprise platform called Sentropy Protect. Sentropy Protect is free software that helps in detecting harmful content on a feed and having better control in the way of the dashboard. This software is initially starting with Twitter, it will add other social feeds with time which provides API to integrate with Sentropy Protect.

CEO of Sentropy John Redgrave stated that the consumer product launch is not a pivot but an expansion of what the company is building. Senetropy will continue to work with enterprise customers. It has two products, Sentropy Product and Sentropy Defend. The Sentropy Product provides API-based access to its abuse detection technologies whereas the Sentropy Defend provides a browser-based interface that enables end-to-end moderation workflows for moderators. But at the same time, the Protect consumer product will provide people an added option — whether or not Sentropy is being used by a particular platform — to take the reins and have more hands-on control over their harassment graph.

Protect is free now, but Redgrave said that Sentropy is still working on deciding whether it’s free or not. One likely scenario that will be protected will come in freemium tiers. It will provide free limited product for individuals with “pro” services featuring enhanced tools, therefore managing accounts on one or high profiles.

Sentropy counts among its workforce former Microsoft, Apple, and Lattice employees, as well as the former head of strategy and operations at Palantir. A number of the company’s founders worked at Apple acquisition target Lattice Data which collaborated with the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) through the Memex program to fight human trafficking. As a part of the effort, they looked at the signals from sources like Backpage, Craigslist, and dark web forums, like language associated with trafficking, and this inspired Sentropy’s solution.
