The Undoing: A Better Thriller Than Netflix’s You

The Undoing is a mystery psychological thriller American TV miniseries that premiered on HBO on October 25, 2020. It is produced and written by David E. Kelley and directed by Susanne Bier. It is based on the novel You Should Have Known, written by Jean Hanff Korelitz in 2014. The series is considered to be one of the most thrilling miniseries of the year 2020. The actress Nicole Kidman and the actor Hugh Grant are in the lead roles in this series and portray the characters of Grace Fraser and Jonathan Fraser, respectively.

On the other hand, you are another psychological thriller American TV series premiered on Lifetime on September 9, 2018, and aired on Netflix globally on December 26, 2018. The series is developed by Sera Gamble and Greg Berlanti. The first season of the series is based on the novel written by Caroline Kepnes in the year 2014. The second season of the series is based on Kepnes’ follow-up novel Hidden Bodies. The story of the first season follows a serial killer and a New York bookstore manager who falls in love with Guinevere Beck, who is a customer and gets obsessed with her very quickly. In the second season, Joe, after moving to Los Angeles, falls in love with Love Quinn, who is a local heiress.

In this way, both of the thrillers have various similarities and a few differences. However, some of the viewers prefer The Undoing, and some prefer Netflix’s You. In this article, we have listed some of the reasons why The Undoing is a better thriller as compared to Netflix’s You.

Grace’s Unraveling Is Realistic

Nicole Kidman portrayed the character of Grace Fraser and performed incredibly in the series. She is not sure if Jonathan, portrayed by Hugh Grant as Grace’s husband, is the actual killer of a lady he cheated on her with. Grace resolves many mysteries with the passing time, and it seems real because it is not easy to keep the hold on reality according to this situation. As the love interests, Beck and Love (Victoria Pedretti) are not as sympathetic or likable, which is one of the best things that has been shown better in The Undoing as compared to You.

Viewers Aren’t Sure If Jonathan Is Guilty

There are many fan theories about the murder of Elena, and sometimes it seems Jonathan is guilty, and sometimes it does not. Most of the viewers did not believe that Jonathan is the actual killer, and also it is very difficult for Grace to believe that her husband is a murderer. The show has been created in such a way that it seems like it could have been Grace’s husband, or the lawyer friend of Grace, or even Grace herself. However, in the final scene of the courtroom, Grace proves that her husband is the real culprit as she gives testimony in court. The final twist, including the helicopter chase after uncovering the truth that Jonathan murdered Elena, is another scenario, where it seems like the series The Undoing is much better than Netflix’s You.
