How to Fix Unable to Display Current Owner Error on Windows 10?

Every user of a device may not be able to access each and every file or folder. The file’s owner, who is typically the admin, possesses the privilege to modify the permissions. But, sometimes, when accessing the File Properties, you may encounter the error – Unable to display current owner. Typically, for changing the permissions of the file, you can just right-click on it and select Properties. Then go to Security, click on Advanced, and select Change. However, in case this does not resolve the issue, then follow the solutions given below.

Running Shared Folder Troubleshooter

  1. Go to the Windows icon and click on it, then choose the Settings option.
  2. You should select the ‘Updates and Security’ option and choose Troubleshooting.
  3. Reach the list and choose ‘Run the troubleshooter’ of the shared folder.
  4. Now, reboot the PC and check the issue.

Uninstall the Folder Lock Software

  1. Hit the Win + R combinations over the keyboard to invoke the Run prompt.
  2. Then insert ‘appwiz.cpl’ in it and select the OK button to invoke the ‘Uninstall a program’ option provided in the Control Panel.
  3. You should click on the folder lock software, and right-click on it, then pick the Uninstall button.
  4. Finally, reboot the system.

Permit Full Access to Authenticated Users

  1. At first, pick the specific folder or file, and right-click on it, then choose the Properties option.
  2. Navigate to the tab of Security and click on it, then click the Advanced button.
  3. Once you get to the ‘Advanced Security Settings’ screen, look for the Permissions tab and pick the ‘Change permissions’ option.
  4. You should choose the ‘Add in the Permissions’ screen and choose the tab of Advanced in the screen of ‘Select User or Group.’
  5. Go to the section of Common Queries and click on the button of Find Now.
  6. After selecting it, choose the ‘Authenticated Users’ option and twice click on it.
  7. Then hit on the OK button.
  8. Reach the permission section, tick the box of ‘Full control’ beneath the ‘Allow’ section, and hit the OK button.
  9. Reboot the system.

Turn on the Inbuilt Administrator Account

  1. Reach the Windows Search section and input ‘cmd’ in it.
  2. Now, select the OK button to get the Command Prompt.
  3. Right-click on it, then pick the ‘Run as Administrator’ option.
  4. Now, insert “net user administrator /active: yes” in it and select the OK button to turn on Admin’s hidden account.
  5. Then sign out of the recent user account.
  6. Now, go to the new Administrator account.
  7. Select it to sign-in.
  8. After signing in to the Administrator’s account, attempt to access the folder or file.
