This Is How You Can Connect Your Phone to An Xbox

Over the years, the purpose and features of smartphones have evolved and got better by the day. A good smartphone acts as a web camera, scanner, gaming console, and more. Using a smartphone, you can get an enhanced video gaming experience and use the device as a second controller for gaming consoles. You can use the regular controller for Xbox, but if it fails to work or is giving you a hard time while playing, then you can smoothly run your smartphone as an Xbox controller and unlock a few unique benefits. Before getting into step, ensure that your smartphone is up to date and connected to the app store so that you can sync it as an Xbox controller. Once these criteria are fulfilled, you can move ahead to follow the step by step guide for connecting your phone to Xbox One console:

Install the Xbox App

As we mentioned earlier, you must update your smartphone or cellular tablet to the latest version of the operating system it uses. Then, you can move ahead to install the Xbox app for iOS or Android smartphones. Note that the iOS users must have the 10.3 or later operating system to get the app on their device, and Android users should have version 4.4 or higher. After updating your devices, visit the Play Store or App Store for installing the ‘Xbox’ app. Once the app gets installed, you can then sign in to your Xbox account.

Make Network Settings

At this stage, you have to sync your Xbox One and your phone, and for that, you must ensure that both the devices are connected online. You can start by checking the network on your Xbox from the Settings of the console. From Settings, click on Network and select Network Settings. Now, unlock your smartphone, go to the Settings app, and go to the Network or Wi-Fi menu. If the Xbox One is not connected yet, then click on Set Up Wireless Network and choose the network of your choice. Then, enter the password for that network. You will now find both the devices connected to each other. Also, make sure that both the devices are kept within the range and connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Sync Both the Devices

Open the Xbox app on your smartphone, and on the top left corner of the screen, tap on the three horizontal bars to check the main menu consisting of the majority of features. From there, tap on Console and after a few seconds, tap on the ‘Connect to Your Xbox One’ option to check the list of available Xbox consoles. Your smartphone must be on the list as well and once you locate it, tap on the Xbox-SystemOS icon. Turn on the toggle for this option, and your Xbox and smartphone will get connected to each other. Now, you can freely use your smartphone as a gaming console controller and keyboard. However, your smartphone will be limited to the Xbox OS only, and currently, there is no second screen integration either.

Open the Xbox App

Connecting both the devices was an easy task, but using the Xbox app takes patience as it can be a little complicated and difficult to learn the features given on it. For accessing most of the features, tap on the three horizontal bars given in the upper-left corner of the app to check the menu. From the app menu, you can check your profile, access the Xbox Store, check your achievements, and more. Tap on your Avatar icon to check the list of friends added on the list, and using the icons next to their names, you can check messages and control notifications. Use three avatar icons to start a party chat.

Control your Xbox One Console with Its App

Although you can use the controller to control the Xbox One console, you can still use your smartphone to access control over it. After connecting your smartphone to the console, you will find a remote symbol appearing on the bottom-right corner of the app’s screen. Click on it to access all four face buttons, home button, view button, and menu button. You can also drag your fingers across the screen to select the tile on your Xbox One. Then, press ‘A’ to confirm your choice.

This guide will help you control your Xbox One easily on a smartphone without relying on the controller.
