Why Was The Last Season of Prison Break a Mistake?

Were you a Prison Break fan? And then it gradually lowered your expectations from the second season or maybe third? I can feel your pain. Prison Break is an American television serial drama directed by Paul Scheuring for Fox. The first season of the show was released in 2005, and it soon became popular among the audience. The first season was very successful. Although the show gradually started falling downhill from the next season and became very repetitive after the third. Despite some great actors, the series could not maintain its position, and the last season, that is the fifth one, is a big mess. So, where did the show go wrong? Is it the same question that bothers you too? Then let’s find it out together. In this article, we will try to find why Prison Break failed, and was it an excellent decision to make a revival series?

The Plot

The series majorly revolved around two brothers Lincoln Burrows (played by Dominic Purcell) and Michael Scofield (played by Wentworth Miller). Burrows was sentenced to death for a false accusation, and his brother Scofield planned an escape to save his brother and to clear his name. Season 1 is all about the escape from the prison Fox River. Season 2 was all about running from the police after the rescue, which was also somewhat entertaining. However, they end up in another prison in Panama, named Penitenciaria Federal de Sona.

And soon in the third season, the show becomes repetitive and tedious. Then the Prison Break introduces the conspiracies of shady government agencies, and the initial focus of season 1 quickly lost. The show finally ended, or at least it was supposed to end with Prison Break season 4 with the death of the protagonist Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) from terminal brain cancer. But later the director introduced a TV movie called Prison Break: The Final Break. The revival season revealed that Scofield sacrificed himself to save his brother and wife by electrocuting himself to open a prison door.

Mistakes the show made

Season 5 brings Michael back. However, it struggled to explain how the character is still alive. Even if he survived the electric surge, he still has terminal brain cancer.

Prison Break brought the dead back even before. Remember Sarah Wayne Callies, she left the show in season 3, and the maker declared her dead, serving the character’s head in a box. But later in season 4, she came back with an explanation that was a trick by the villains. The invariably silly twists gradually disappoint its fans. Michael Scofield’s death was a closure though in season 4, but season 5 undid even that. Prison Break season 5 has not anything fresh to serve. It was all about reuniting brothers.
