Game of Thrones: When Did the Plot Go Downhill

Game of Thrones was one of the epic shows. It built this fantastic fantasy world with some great twists and turns. The characters and the plot were so well written that they all had made their unique places in our hearts. There was an unbelievable craze among the fans who desperately waited for the next episode every week. The show ruled the TRP game for almost a decade. But the show ended on a sour note. Fans were disappointed that the mysterious plot of the “White Walkers” did not end well. And the most awaited “The Battle of Winterfell” which was the Great War between the dead and the living, including the force of Starks, Arryns, and Targaryens was over in just one episode. Later the Daenerys’ character also felt a little off-board and undeveloped.

Emilia Clarke, who played Dragon Queen’s role, said, “I had no idea what to expect from this last season”, which explains that not only fans, the stars themselves were not happy with the last season script.

Season 8 was the most disheartening and controversial season among them all. But there were some previous hints though that were indicating that the show had been going towards the downhill. So if you are also a Game of Thrones fan, and are curious to know what those signs are, then read this whole article till the end.

Jaime Lannister

. Although the Writer George Martin always described his writing style as “gardener approach”. He leaves room for the character to develop instead of sticking to a rigid idea and plan.

Hence the main antagonist Jamie Lannister surprisingly changed into a redeemable figure. The approach benefited the character, as it was a good twist in the plot, and the audience liked the change. However, later in the plot, he throws it away by going back to Cersei, the love of his life.

Euron

Euron Greyjoy, aka Euron Crow’s Eye, was the brother of Balon Greyjoy, who later became the King of the Iron Islands. He uses his Iron fleet to defeat the ironborn and the Dornish allies of Daenerys in the Blackwater Bay and then in the show is named as commander of the Lannister fleet. Although in the book, he was far more than a pirate guy. The character of Euron, as per the book, was the most intimidating and terrifying one. It is said that he traveled the world through Valyria and Asshai on the horrifying ship, Silence. During this journey, he found dragon eggs, dragon horns, and also a Valyrian Steel armor. However, in the show, the character did not develop well, and he was just shown as a goofy pirate guy who wanted to marry Cersei Lannister.

Tyrion Lannister

Tyrion Lannister was the most beloved and popular character in the series. He was witty, smart, and fun to watch. The Tyrion character seemed to consider a situation carefully and smartly planned everything before the Battle of Blackwater. But at the end of the show, he made terrible decisions as an advisor. Because of his mistakes, Daenerys had to lose her land and soldiers.

Daenerys Targaryen

Daenerys Targaryen was a sweet, naive, child-like character in the beginning. Then the character gradually grew into a warm-hearted, generous but smart ruler. She had to face many problems throughout her journey.

But the last season was a mess. In the third episode, Dany risked her life, her army, and even her dragon to defend the North and the Seven Kingdoms. By the fifth episode, the character suddenly developed so much that she burned the King’s Landing and killed thousands of innocent lives. That was the most annoying and shocking characterization twist in the Daenerys character that felt a little rushed.

Faceless Men

There were a lot of things about the Faceless Men that make no sense in the series. The show never shows other members from the society beside Jaqen and the Waif, even though there were numerous other assassins too who were connected to the community.

Secondly, if they are so secretive about their work, why do they have a vast temple? Despite being great assassins, the Faceless Men also have a reputation for secrecy. Third, they had the cool ability to change their appearance, but it was never clear how they were able to do that? Did they learn some technique, or was it merely a form of magic?
